Nothing like Family

...and there's not. It's the time of year that I crave soups, warm fires and a hot cup of chocolate before bed. It's the time of year that I feel the pangs of homesickness a bit more often.
But not in a bad way. Mostly because the next couple months will be spent with family and friends to celebrate nothing more than togetherness.
David and I want to create that same feeling for Elias. So yesterday, with the sun shining, we took a few "family" pictures to celebrate our first fall as three.
Perhaps Elias won't remember how hard it was to get him to look at the camera or how many shots we had to take to get just the right one - but hopefully a seed has been planted, and he'll think back on "family time" with fondness.

Gotta love mother nature - at least today

It snowed. I'm so excited. Here's a few pictures I took out our back windows.

Daddy time

Today I snuck up on Elias and David in the nursery. There I found them reading book after book. It was precious.
Elias has now taken to mimicking our voices and sounds. And, I must say, he does quite a good job.
"Elias, what does a cow say? (pause) Mooooooo."
"Ohhhh..mmmm" he'll say in response.
He doesn't quite have it down pat.
But it's so freakin cute.

"I'll eat you Bandana Bear!"

Haha! Today I was playing with Elias. He's totally into grabbing anything and everything. Well, Bandana Bear is squishy, rattly and very baby safe for grabbing and eating.

Poor Bandana Bear...

I think he may look slobbery, crusty and well - "loved" - before too long.

Black and white

I'm working on my photo skills. Yep, we are planning on shooting a family portrait sometime in the future so I've been playing around with my camera a bit.

Elias has - obviously - been my test subject. Who better?

Here's the results thus far...

Road runners

I am now a road runner. Nearly every day Elias, Bali and I hit the roads around Juneau for a jog. Is it terribly exciting? Not really. There's not a huge selection afterall. But it keeps us sane. In a good way.
The pat, pat, pat of feet hitting the pavement, the ravens in the trees, an occasional eagle and Bali's scritch scratch of claws on the asphalt sends us all - I think - into a hypnotic state of calm. It's a welcome break from home. A change of scenery. A breath of fresh air - literally.
And thank goodness for the "Bob." This jogger stroller is a must-have for any mom looking to stay super-active after the birth of kiddos. And with Elias still so small, his car seat clips right in.
By the way, this morning we had our first hard frost. Winter's on its way!

Morning man

Elias loves mornings. He is always a bundle of smiles and energy as soon as the sun comes up.
This particular morning he decided to show off his latest trick - yep, this kiddo can now sit up - with a little help balancing, of course. What a joy it is to watch him learn about the world!
Here he's sporting his new fuzzi bunz (a reusable diaper) and of course the ever-present milk belly.
